Copal LP-247

Another very rare gem from 1970s Japan. And a lovely blacklight tucked nicely inside to make the blacklight reactive digits really pop. Groovy! This beautiful "Woodgrain" vintage Copal LP-248 flip clock and alarm was sold in Japan only. Copal was the company that made almost every single flip clock movement for every manufacturer that built a clock or clock radio with flip-digits. The build quality and condition are outstanding. It is in absolutely excellent shape, but has a few very slight scuffs here and there, but they are minor. NOTE: the sticker on the front is a low-adhesive vinyl sticker. It removes (if desired) easily. There is something special about this clock as it has a sticker on the right side. It states it was for the completion of an engineering project, an office building, by the "Nishio Civil Engineering Dept", Nishi Company, LTD." It seemed to have VERY little use overall.

Restoration notes

The motor required cleaning and new lubrication. It has been restored to better than new performance with synthetic lubricant. The acrylic viewing window is in excellent shape. The illumination was a small 80-volt fluorescent blacklight which was starting to flicker from age. It was replaced with a 3-LED blacklight strip along with my own custom-made high voltage AC to low voltage DC converter since LEDs are low-voltage DC only. I make my own as most units that do this create a lot of RF noise which can interrupt radio operation nearby. The alarm was stuck, also from some dried grease, but was restored. It is a mechanical buzzer and it WILL wake you up! BZZZzzzzz......Get up!
