The National Panasonic RC-707B (also known as the RC-707) is a vintage 1970s Space Age flip-clock radio manufactured in Japan by Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. • Flip Clock Mechanism: Rotating numbered panels display the time, paired with an automatic day-and-date calendar. • Radio Tuner: Built-in FM and AM / Medium Wave (MW) 2-band radio using a 12-transistor IC design. • Magic Touch Snooze: A metal bar on top of the unit acts as an electronic touch-sensitive snooze button to temporarily silence the alarm. • Design & Size: Features a larger, sculptural housing compared to typical bedside flip clocks (measuring roughly 360 x 120 x 180 mm or 14.2 x 4.7 x 7.1 inches, and weighing about 2.4 kg / 5.3 lbs). • Power Requirements: Designed for AC power (commonly regional variants such as 100V, 110V, or 220V/50Hz depending on the market, requiring proper voltage conversion or plug adapters if used internationally).

Restoration notes

All switches disassembled and/or cleaned/tested. Inoperable motor was cleaned and oiled using synthetic lubricant. Now working smoothly and quietly. Keeps perfect time. All digit flaps inspected and cleaned for smooth movement. Alarm and sleep (countdown) mode function perfectly. Alarm will wake you to radio or a chirp noise. The burned-out internal lighting was replaced with 2 orange neon lamps for the time and day/date digits and 1 green neon for the alarm wheel. The lamps for the alarm indicator and tuning barrel were also replaced. Polished the acrylic window, but some very, very small scratches remain. All circuit board traces inspected for corrosion/lifting. All capacitors, diodes, resistors inspected for leaking, burning or any other type of potential failure. Replaced as needed. A total of 16 capacitors and one transistor were replaced. The radio sounds nice and crisp with no crackling at all when volume is adjusted. It sounds great! 72-hour test of all features.
