Trio KA-6000

A stunning Trio (Kenwood) KA-6004 integrated amplifier from Japan. In Japan, Kenwood was known as "Trio". The hardware was the same, but the name was different. This is an early solid-state amplifier, but the build quality was already pretty advanced as they were trying to make an impression against stiff competition. This is a sweet sounding and very musical amp. The cabinet and real-wood panels are in incredible shape and look amazing. These are usually scratched up, but these have very few imperfections. NOTE: This is a multi-volt unit so it will work in the US with no need for a voltage converter. 100 or 120 volts. Putting out a beautiful and warm 45 (8 ohms) watts per channel, it does sound a little more powerful than the wattage spec tells us. This gorgeous amplifier has been completely rebuilt so it'll run for another 50+ years! Everything else in the unit has also been replaced...ALL capacitors, heavy-duty diodes and a handful of over-taxed resistors. It sounds crisp and clear and has a very welcoming soundstage with vinyl especially or even a Bluetooth receiver via the AUX input. The pre-amp section is just awesome. Trio/Kenwood really knew how to make integrated amps during this time period. This is a very gain-forward design in the phono pre-amp, so special care was taken not to overload it with transistors that are too "hot". KSC1815 instead of KSC1845.

Restoration notes

Fully disassembled and cleaned. Inputs cleaned. All capacitors on all boards replaced, including filter capacitors. (I only use Nichicon, Panasonic, Kemet and/or WIMA capacitors) New diodes in protection, power supply and amplifier circuits. Differential transistors replaced. 4x final output transistors pulled and cleaned along with new thermal grease and pads applied. All controls disassembled and cleaned/conditioned. New power/selector indicator lamps. Circuit boards inspected for any cracking, burning, etc. Amplifier balanced to factory spec. Runs on 100/120 volts AC. Bench tested for 72 hours under an 8-ohm load.
