Seiko DP-688 Flip Clock

This 1975 Seiko DP-688 flip clock is a beautifully engineered example of Japanese industrial design from the golden age of precision electronics. Finished in stunning brushed aluminum with a sculptural pedestal base, this clock looks as much like a modern art object as it does a timepiece. When powered on, the clock comes alive with the very soft whir of the motor and the satisfying mechanical rhythm of its classic flip-digit display—a sound and motion that defined bedside clocks of the era. Unlike modern digital clocks, this Seiko keeps things wonderfully simple: accurate time, crisp flipping digits, and a proper mechanical alarm buzzer. This model was never sold in the United States and was originally produced for the Japanese Domestic Market, making it a special find for collectors of vintage Seiko and mid-century electronics.
